How To Become a Sous Chef
Having a two-year or four-year degree in a culinary arts school will be an added advantage. Students who are aspiring to become chefs will be given formal training where they will be taught about the art of cooking, the importance of cooking nutritious food, the calorie value involved in each food preparation, how the ingredients and the variation of which will create a totally different dish, the secret of art and food decoration, the food culture in various countries, food storage and so on. A strong sense of smell and taste is mandatory. If the chefs have knowledge of three or more foreign languages it will be an asset because he will then improve his chances of getting a job in an upscale restaurant or hotel. Apart from that he should have good presence of mind, take timely decisions and possess great communication skills. However, the real training will be given right on the job, so most beginners will be working as trainees under experienced chefs. The apprentice period usually lasts two years after which they will be given responsible jobs.
