How To Become a Yoga Instructor
To get into the field yoga teachers usually need to go through yoga teacher training and yoga teacher certification. Yoga teacher training is not defined as a certain period of time like going to school for a bachelors degree but is defined by a certain number of hours or days of training. Yoga teacher training courses can be found at different yoga studios and the length of time the program is completed in depends on the amount of time you can dedicate to the program at once. If you only have part time availability for the teacher training you may finish it in one year but if you can dedicate full time to the program getting certified may only take a half a year.
After being certified a yoga instructor may only be teaching one basic or beginner class per day or less depending on the studio. It may take a while before a new teacher has enough experience that they are consistently filling up their classes. The more experience and popularity the yoga teacher gains the more students the teacher can expect to have in their classes. The yoga instructor salary will improve as they gain experience.
More experienced instructors can teach private classes and even host yoga retreats. Yoga retreats are very popular among yoga enthusiasts. The yoga teacher takes a class away on a retreat to a coastal beach or in the mountains to practice yoga in nature for one or two weeks at a time. Yoga retreats can pay very well but they are a lot of work for the instructor because they are also dealing with group travel details.
