To become an anesthesiologist assistant you must already have a four year degree. While this degree can be on any subject, degrees in chemistry or biology are preferred. Anesthesiologist assistants then go through a two year program, at the end of which they receive their anesthesiologist assistant certification. While these programs are challenging, they are not as rigorous as attempting a medical degree and have many less necessary qualifications to begin study.

An anesthesiologist assistant will take medical histories, monitor the patient’s vital signs, help in pain management and perform follow-ups and diagnostics. An anesthesiologist assistant works closely with both doctors and patients. As such, an anesthesiologist assistant will need to be able to develop a good rapport with people, handle stress well, and most of all be diligent and conscientious in their work at all times. An anesthesiologist assistant is a vital component to the medical process.
