How To Become a Senior Optometrist
Optometrists are registered as medical doctors and must spend several years attending an accredited university before they are eligible to begin practicing. The first step in the educational ladder is to earn a bachelor’s degree. This is a four year degree and is offered by nearly every university or college. Most optometrists major in the pre-med field so that they can easily enter medical school when they graduate. After graduation from an undergraduate college, students must take the Medical College Assessment Test (MCAT). The MCAT is offered at most major universities and is used in the medical school application process.
Medical school requires at least four years of studies. The good thing about medical school these days is that the schools are no longer allowed to fail their students. The severe shortage of doctors has increased demands, and there is no longer a chance for students to fail medical school as long as they try. This demand is also fuelling salaries, and growth is expected to outpace other careers for the next several decades.
