How To Become An Osteopathic Doctor
Doctors must go to medical school 8-10 years. After this training they are required to train another eight years if they want to become a cardiothoracic or osteopathic surgeon. This profession demands one of the longest and most difficult educations in the medical field. After all this training, if the doctor wishes to specialize in pediatrics and or heart transplants there is additional training. A cardiothoracic or osteopathic surgeon must expertly attune to all aspects of their medical field, probably more then any other specialty. They must know every crucial part of the anatomy of the heart, and the lungs, all of the blood vessels and arteries, pharmacology, or the effect of medications on the heart and lungs, biochemistry, medical ethics and pathology or lab particulars, to name just a few areas of expertise. Their residency will train them is diagnosing illnesses, and choosing the correct treatment to help the person onto the wellness road.
When the cardiothoracic surgeon has completed all of their training, they must be certified by the American Board of Medical Specialists. Then they must be certified in cardiothoracic surgery. They are also elected into The American College of Cardiology, earning their FACC after their title of M.D. or D.O. This designates them as Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. This surgeon can work out of their hospital, or if they choose they can set up a private practice where they can offer pre/post-surgical checkups and follow their patients into wellness.
