How To Become a Physiatrist
A good starting point to a career as a physiatrist is a bachelor’s degree in any pre-medicine program such as chemistry, biology, or physics. To become a physiatrist one must receive a doctorate in medicine or a doctorate of osteopathy with four years of graduate school and four more years of residency training developing clinical skills. They have a variety of specialties though often have specialties in Physical Medicine or Rehabilitation. Physiatrists require board certification, which requires passing a test that is regulated and presented by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
